Mt. Kilimambogo

Mt. Kilimambogo: Hiking, 2008 & designing life!

On 4th September 2023, I was at Kilimambogo, a mountain that rises 2100 feet above sea level, in the  east of Nairobi.

I was last here in 2008, 15 years ago. Though we were young then, we choose not to hike. Instead we drove up the mountain. We had gone for a Rotaract event. I was the President of the Rotaract club of Nairobi East, As the only driver who could handle a manual vehicle, I took up the role of a driver of a 14 seater matatu. I steered the members from Nairobi to the KWS Banda at the Kilimambogo and back. It was a fun event, but also a great life planning session.

Many of us had just completed the university and were on our first jobs. We were discovering the world of work, adulting and beginning to consider raising families. With the guidance of some great Rotarians, we planned what our late 30s and our 40s would look like. Interesting to say, lots of what I planned at Kilimanjaro did happen in  my life.

Going back to Kilimambogo 15 years later made me reflect on how we are do design our own lives. Design by thought, commitment, action and habits.
