Most of us have heard of SPIRE, an acronym of all areas of self that need to be healthy. It stands for Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Relational and emotional health, a framework by Tal Ben-Shahar. It is easy for use to see through the last four health areas, but the first has always been a hard nut to crack!
What is Spiritual health? What is Spirituality? Is it related to religion? These are some of the questions we ask often.
In our definition here, spirituality will mean a connection to;
1. The universe, divine or nature: This is the most known and explored areas of spirituality. And often the most confusing of them all.
2. Other life: A connection to other people, animals, plants and life giving power like the Sun, moon, water, fire and earth.
3. To the self: This is the most vital and the baseline of all health. None of us will achieve SPIRE health or a connection to the divine and other life prior to having a solid connection to the self. Life and the life force begins getting healthy once this connection gets established.
We consider religion as diverse languages we speak as we seek spiritual health. And of such are religion neutral, Accepting all as valid, all as needing more unfolding and development
